On Saturday after work we went to New Market. It was our second time there. There are a lot of shops and it is really huge market, it looks like Moscow's Cherkizovskiy market in it's best time))) hehehe People from Moscow will understand me))) what I mean))) haha
So we went there to look something))) there are so many different clothes, accessories and other staff and everything is so colorful, so of course it attracts foreigners))) Sales people there knowing it use it fully)))) They start selling you from the moment they notice you...
So there were several sales people or so called hired persons who has to look for rich clients - usually it means foreigners... so we were accompanied by several of them... But after they understood that it didn't work with us they left us alone))) it was such release))
What we understood that it is better not to tell people from the market that we are from Russia and especially Moscow. Cause after it their eyes get bigger and they eager to take as much money as possible from Russian foreigners. heheh)))) funny)))) Our Russians have already showed how they can spend money during the shopping)))) That is why these sales people even know few words on Russian))) very necessary words))) hahah "Poidem-poidem" (let's go) to our shop, "khorosho" (gut), "Tuda idi" (Go there), "Krasivo"(beautiful) and something like this)))) haha it is funny. But is doesn't work at all))) So now we decided to introduce ourself like we are from Hungary or Lithuania, cause mainly Indian don't know where it is))) hehe so it helps us a little)))
So finally we found good place where it was pleasant to look some clothes and to try something)) There were middle aged couple they helped me much))) and the main is that it was calm and very diverse clothes)))
I bought something))) and it wasn't expensive at all (it is two shirts and two trousers). Actually I don't know the right name of it, but it is quite popular. I will show you some photos of it later.

Theater)))
Yesterday we with friends decided to go to theater))) We went to Kala Mandir theater)))
We were with our friend Abishek)))) If not him, we would be manage to do it. So Abishek bought ticket for everyone, there were a lot of people with us.))) We met some Abishek's friends, for example Elizabeth and her 4 years son Thomas, she is from Germany, but she has been living for one year in Kolkata))) She is very nice and it was pleasure to communicate with her.))) Her son is so cute)))
So about theater))) yes, it was nice, the name of the play is "Love letter". There were only two actors - man and woman. The play was on English and it was nice)))
Love Letters is a Pulitzer Prize for Drama nominated play by A.R. Gurley. The play centers on just two characters, Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III. Using the epistolary form sometimes found in novels, they sit side by side at tables and read the notes, letters and cards - in which over nearly 50 years, they discuss their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, victories and defeats - that have passed between them throughout their separated lives. So it was nice performed)))) all of us liked it))) There were a lot of funny things)))
Of course there were something unique in Indian theater)))
First, it is mentioned in the ticket that the beginning of the play is at 18.30, but it began in 18.50. May be it is made like that in order people wouldn't be late??!!! if it is for it, then it is great))))
Second, before beginning of the play they introduced by microphone all the team like director, music, lighting and etc))) it is quite new for me))) cause in Russian theaters there is no such introduction)))
Third, it is not depend on Indian or not Indian theater but there were so many people who didn't switch off mobile phones and even spoke during the play, that was unbelievable!!!!
Forth, of course after the end of the play main actor introduced again all the team (music, director and etc.) hehehhe ... and he told us about that it was very difficult to perform when it was so noisy in the theater and that he hope that next time there won't be so...
So it was very-very nice))) nice that it is international))) it was on English))))

Indian food)))
So I decided to write this post only for our relatives, cause they are so worried about us)))
Of course I can't judge about Indian kitchen now, I am only 2 weeks in India, Kolkata)))
But the most important that we are ok and our stomachs too)))) Food is very tasty, different and if you don't like spicy food it is easy to avoid it)))
Also Indian food is a ideal for vegetarian))) yeah, here people can cook very good)))
Everything that we tried is really tasty. Everywhere you can find vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.)))
First I tried not to eat meat and chicken at all, but now I started eat everything))) and of course it is very tasty fish here)) we have to eat it more)))
What about food - it can be different kind of noodles, vegetables (potatoes, tomatoes, everything we have in Russia), serials, of course various types of rice))) with vegetable, fried, with chicken, with spices, with eggs)))) so it is tasty))) every time it can be prepared quite different so you don't get tired with it))) it is tastyyyyy))))
Oh, how nice sweets)))) I like them, they are quite different))) In Kolkata it is the best))))) I wrote about them before in my previous posts)))
Also it can be bread, cakes (lepeshka), rolls with different veg and non-veg fillings inside)))
So it is difficult to describe but it is really rich culture for food))) one day I will write more about it)))
There are some rules which people should follow))) To wash hands before getting food and eat in good places, it can be done even on the street. I will explain what I mean))) there are a lot place to eat on the street, but not all of them are proper place to eat for foreigners... So you should keep in mind that if you are gonna to buy something on the street - first, there should be a lot people buying something that can mean that this place is not bad, second - your food should be very hot!!! In this case all the bacterias will die.
About water - it is simple, it is allowed to drink water only from the bottle or boiling water.
For parents, our sisters and brothers, all relatives - don't worry about us, we eat usually very good)))) not starving))) and feel very well))) we like Indian food)))
For friends and people who is gonna to come to India for traveling - hope these advices were useful))) Just don't be afraid)))) It is worth trying))) If what you are welcome to ask me, I will be pleased to help you!!!

oh, and what about girls))) heheh can you imagine then)))) yeap, they are great-great fans of Bollywood movies, they adore Bollywood actresses and they would like to be like them)))
So today it was so touching how they looked through some pictures of Bollywood actresses))) The most funny that girls was taking photos of actresses from the PC )))) not guys, but girls)))) the way how they wondered how beautiful these actresses are)))) hahah it was nice))))

Getting used to India)))
I am in India almost 2 weeks))) amazing))) how fast time pasts)))
Sometimes I can't believe that I am in India... and I realize it only when I see around me a lot of Indian people, women in saris, rickshaws, crazy taxi drivers... haha it is funny)))
It is really difficult to get used to some things... that is why you just have to accept it and don't react on it, just know that it is and that is all. It is about people also))) Before coming to India I didn't know that it would be like that))) For example the difference between people is so big. Some people are European looking and their behavior like that, but a lot people they look at the foreigners like they have never seen them before... It is funny but let me explain it)))
My friend Natasha is also in her internship in Sri Lanka and today I got a letter from her and she describes the same feelings about people, how they look at tourist, so to say 'white people'.)))
She came in Sri Lanka one months earlier then me. So she wrote that at first it was funny that all the people looked at her and other foreigner so attentively))) after two weeks she was really irritated by it and wanted to ask them 'why are you looking at me?? I am the same like you guys!!!" And in one moths she doesn't care about it at all)))
So I am at the second stage of getting used to India, to people, some things))) I am irritating by it))) I am really sorry about it, but I am))) Because some people they don't just look at you, they stare at you and you don't know what to think about it, what did you do wrong or what??!!! And these weekend I even asked one couple "what??? what are you looking at ???" haha it is funny for me now))) but don't know I was so angry at them))) hahah
But as I understand all interns here have such emotions first and then they get used to it))) so I am normal and it is just level of getting used to it))) hehe
So please if you really plan to come to India be prepared that it quite different people here (they are nice, majority of them and a lot of them are so nice and friendly, ready to help you, but anyway they are differ from you), traditions, conditions, level of living and other staff))) Be prepared to learn something new and quite different))) I mean just not to have illusions about India in order not to be disappointed with this interesting country. Otherwise you will not be ready to accept it like it is...
As I see I was ready for these internship to India even without preparations, I mean without reading different books about India, articles and videos, I didn't prepare in it at all, but I just felt that I wanted to come here))) but anyway I can't stop wondering about everything whether it is good or sometimes negative experience))) But it is worth it))) don't be scared)))

This postcard we were given for free))Do you remember like I described in one of my post (dated 16.07.2010) one festival Ratha Yatra))) So I am happy to inform you that we were there)))) I am so happy))) cause I though already that we wouldn't manage to visit it))) But our Indian friend Abishek is so kind to us, tries to do his best to show us everything we want)) he is really the nicest friend of us))) So he showed us the place where it was, we went there by his car. In our team were I, Janka, Igor and Bruis))
This festival is
a huge Hindu festival associated with Lord Jagannath held at Puri (it is the holy city that is 300 km from Kolkata) in the state of Orissa,India during the months of June Most of the city's society is based around the worship of Jagannath (Krishna) with the ancient temple being the fulcrum of the area.It is not the most popular festival in Kolkata, but it is also possible to visit here.)))
I will show you a little more information about the festival itself in Kolkata)))
The symbolic movement of the chariot of Jagannath (agannātha Sanskrit: जगन्नाथ jagannātha Oriya: it is a Hindu deity, a form of Vishnu. The oldest and most famous Jagannātha deity is in the city of Puri, in Odisha, India, the city is known to many as Jagannātha puri after the Jagannath Temple, where each year the famous Ratha Jātrā festival takes place. Jagannātha is worshipped by Hindus all over India. The Jagannātha Temple in Puri is regarded as one of the four most sacred Hindu pilgrimage places in India) is celebrated with much fanfare in Kolkata due to the huge chariot brought out by ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Cousciousness http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISKCON).
The destination of the cult figures are the Maidan. The "idols" are brought back after a week in the chariot in the festival of Ulto Ratha ("reversed Ratha") . The week is synonymous with numerous fairs (Rather mela) held all over Kolkata parks, known for their distinctive food and carousels. Myth has it that it always rains on the day of Ratha Yatra in Kolkata.
Yap, I understand how it is difficult to understand all the meaning of this religious festival))) But the main is that it is not the most popular festival in Kolkata and if you want to visit it, it is better to go to Puri))) The information about this city is above. We thought about going there, but we aren't sure that we will be aloud going there, cause we are foreigners and of course it is far enough from Kolkata.
The mythology of this festival is very interesting))) This is God description)))
There are two interesting stories associated with this deity. First is the story of how Krishna appeared to a great devotee of the lord, King Indradyumna and ordered him to carve a deity from a log he would find washed up on the sea shore of Puri. He searched for a carpenter to make the deities. King Indradyumna found a mysterious old Brahmin carpenter who appeared and took the responsibility and took a few days to accomplish that. Surprisingly the carpenter insisted that he would not be disturbed while he was carving the deity and start working behind a closed door. Everyone including the King and his Queen were very much anxious and came every day to the closed door and there was sound of working. After 6–7 days of waiting anxiously outside his room, but after some time, all sound stopped. The impatient Indradyumna's Queen worried what had happened and assuming the worst, opened the doors - only to find the deity half-finished and the carpenter vanished! The mysterious carpenter was none other than Vishvakarma, the heavenly architect. The king was distraught as the deity had no arms and legs. Utterly repentant that he had interrupted the carving, the king was only pacified when the muni (sage) called Narada appeared and explained that the form the king now sees is a legitimate form of the supreme personality of godhead. The second story here was narrated to further explain and remove any doubts and confusion.
The second reason for Lord Jagannath's appearance is the story of how Krishna was eavesdropping on the gopis as they spoke amongst themselves of His pastimes, and how much they loved him. Sister Subhadra was instructed to keep watch and ensure Krishna wasn't nearby while the gopis spoke of Krishna. But after a while Subhadra was so overwhelmed by the gopis' devotion and their stories that she became completely engrossed in listening. She didn't see the brothers Krishna and Balarama approaching. As the brothers listened their hairs stood on end, their arms retracted, their eyes grew larger and larger, and they smiled broadly in ecstasy. That is why Jagannath, Balarama and Subhadra look like they do.
This form is worshiped by Vaishnavas as the abstract form of Krishna. The deities - Jagannath, Balabhadra (Balarama) and Subhadra (Krishna's sister) are usually worshipped in the temple, but once in every Asadha Masa (Rainy Season, usually June or July), they are brought out onto the main high street of Puri and travel (3 km) to the Mausimaa Temple, allowing the public to have Darshan (holy view) of the deities as they pass. This festival is known as Ratha Yatra. The Rath carts themselves are huge wooden structures built new every year and are pulled by the millions of pilgrims who turn up for the event from all parts of the Globe. The festival commemorates Krishna's return to His home in Vrindavan after a long period of separation from the people there.Usually the deities - Jagannath (Krishna), Balarama and Subhadra are worshipped within the temple, but on the day of the Rath festival they are taken through the streets so that everyone can have the fortune of seeing them. Three richly decorated chariots, resembling temple structures, are pulled through the streets of Puri. This commemorates the annual journey of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balarama, and their sister Subhadra to their aunt' s temple, the Gundicha Temple which is situated at a distance of 2 km from their temple. New chariots are built every year. This is the only day when devotees who are not allowed in the temple premises such as non-Hindus and foreigners, can get their glimpse of the deities. During the festival, devotees from all over the World go to Puri with an earnest desire to help pull Lords' chariot with the help of other priests pulling the chariots with ropes. They consider this a pious deed and risk their lives in the huge crowd. The huge processions accompanying the chariots play devotional songs with drums, tambourines, trumpets etc. Children line the streets through which the chariot will pass and add to the mass chorus. The Rath carts themselves are some approximately 45 feet (14 m) high and are pulled by the thousands of pilgrims who turn up for the event. Millions of devotees congregate at Puri for this annual event from all over the country and abroad. It is also telecasted live on many Indian channels and International channels.

Of course we couldn't understand anything))) just took beautiful photos))) hahah and we were wondering how everything beautiful, colorful, bright was. Also we learned that this festival is very popular and spread worldwide)))
The Ratha Jatra festival has become a common sight in most major cities of the world since 1968 through the ISKCON Hare Krishna movement. Its leader A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada successfully transplanted the festival which now happens on an annual basis in places all over the world in over 100 cities including Dublin, Belfest, London, Budapest, Melbourne, Monreal, Paris, New York, Singapore, Toronto, Kuala Lumpur and Moscow too, in many cities actually))) The Rathajatra in Dhamrai, Bangladesh is one of the most important in Bangladesh.
It is so difficult to understand traditions, it takes much time))) That is why I showed you some information about the festival and traditions in my blog))) But of course it will not cover all the understand of this event))) But anyway we were happy to visit this festival))) and I want to share with you my impressions)))
